Imran demands faster rail connectivity and new station for Bradford.

In a recent Parliamentary debate on transport, Imran Hussain MP for Bradford East called on the Government to deliver long-overdue investment in Bradford’s transport infrastructure and ensure the city is no longer left behind.

Speaking in the debate, Imran pressed the Secretary of State for Transport to commit to linking Bradford into the TransPennine Route Upgrade as part of the Northern Powerhouse Rail project. He argued that connecting Bradford via Huddersfield would dramatically cut journey times to Manchester by half and provide the city with direct access to the wider northern economy.

Imran also pushed for a new, modern and fit for purpose train station in Bradford, which would connect Bradford to the rest of the country and enable wider regeneration of Bradford City Centre.

The recent spending review announced £2.1 billion as part of a West Yorkshire Mass Transit System, which will help to build a new tramline between Bradford and Leeds, as well as a new bus station in Bradford.

Imran Hussain MP, said:

“This week I demanded that the Secretary of State do more to help places like Bradford that have been left behind on transport for years.”

“As part of my campaign for Bradford to get faster & better rail connectivity, I have been working closely with Bradford Council to make the case for connecting our City to the TransPennine route as part of Northern Powerhouse Rail. I will continue pressing until we get the link we need.”

“With a new rail station, a modern bus station, and a tramline to Leeds, we have a real opportunity to unlock millions in economic growth annually. That’s not just growth for Bradford—but for the whole region.”
